Set up your profile to run Facebook and Instagram Ads

Here's all the steps you need to take before you can run Facebook and Instagram Ads through ToneDen.

ToneDen uses Meta's Marketing API to make a creator-friendly experience for posting specialized ad campaigns on Facebook and Instagram.

There are four main requirements to take care of before running Facebook and Instagram Ads on ToneDen. You may have already met some of these requirements, particularly if you've advertised on Facebook before!

Note: Some older Facebook accounts may not have updated to the new look of Meta Business Manager, as seen in the below screenshots. If what you see in Facebook/Meta looks very different, and you feel lost, feel free to email support@toneden.io for additional assistance.

Four steps to take before setting up Facebook and Instagram Ads through ToneDen

1. Give your personal Facebook profile advertiser or admin access to a Facebook Business Page

First, you should be logged into your personal Facebook profile.

Then, go your Facebook Business Settings.

If you do not see any businesses on that page, you may need to set up your first Meta Business Account. You can do so here.

If you've already set up Facebook Business Manager in the past, you may be prompted to select your relevant business.

Once you reach your Business Settings page, it should look something like this:

You should see your own name, along with the names of other members of your business team. If you do not see your name / the name of the Facebook personal profile you'll be connecting to ToneDen, use the blue "Invite People" button in the top right corner to send an email invitation to yourself or others to join the business.

Once you see the relevant name in that list, procee to click on "Pages" in the left sidebar. You will reach this screen:

On the center column, you'll see a list of pages that this Business can access -- in this screenshot, there's two pages available. Select the page you wish to advertise from.

On the right section of the page, you can see a list of users with access in some way to the page.

Notice the two different buttons that say "Assign people". Click either of the buttons, and you'll see the below screen.

Click the check mark next to your own name (or whoever's profile will be connected to ToneDen) on the left side of the window. Then, on the right section of this window, check off "Ads" and "Insights", or (if possible) "Full Control". Then, click the blue "Assign" button in the bottom right corner.

2. Give your personal Facebook profile advertiser or admin access to a Meta Ad Account with a valid payment method attached

Now, click "Ad accounts" in the left side column. If you have no ad accounts, you'll see a page like this:

If you see this page, click the blue "Add" button in the center of the screen. You'll be prompted with a few options:

  1. Add an ad account -- click this if you know you already have an ad account in Facebook, but you haven't imported it to Meta Business Manager.

  2. Request access to an ad account -- click this if you're managing advertisements for a client who plans to pay for the ads themselves.

  3. Create a new ad account -- click this to start fresh with a new ad account.

As you create the ad account, you will be prompted to assign permissions to members of your business. Give "Manage ad accounts" access to your own account or whatever account you're using in ToneDen. You'll need "Manage campaigns" and "View performance" at minimum.

If you haven't set up an ad account before, you'll also be prompted to add a payment method. This is required to run any ads on Meta platforms.

After you add your payment method, proceed to the next step!

3. (Optional) Connect your Instagram business account to your Facebook business page

This step is optional, as you can run ads on Instagram even without completing this step! However, the ads will not appear to be connected to your Instagram profile, and will instead display on Instagram with your Facebook page name. Many advertisers prefer having their Instagram profile attached to their Instagram ads, as it helps them gain followers and profile visits.

First, you must switch to a professional account on Instagram to link to a Facebook page.

You must have Facebook access to the page, which was already covered in previous steps. If you need to review, you can learn more about Page access in the new Pages experience directly from Facebook's support documentation.

To add or change the Facebook page that is connected to your Instagram professional account:

  1. Go to your Instagram business profile.

  2. Tap "Edit profile"

  3. Under "Public business information", select Page.

  4. Tap "Create Facebook Page" or "Connect an existing Page".

  5. Choose the page from your pages that you'd like to advertise from.

  6. Tap "Done" after you've selected a Page.

Now, ads created on ToneDen for a Facebook page will successfully link to your page's connected Instagram account.

4. Check that your Facebook profile

You can check on your Facebook Business Tool permissions in Facebook's Business Tools settings menu. Click on "View and edit" next to ToneDen, then ensure that all permissions for all pages you have access to are checked off.

4. Connect your personal Facebook profile to ToneDen

Head to your ToneDen Advertising Settings.

Then, connect your Facebook personal profile using the "Connect" button.

If you've already connected your Facebook previously, click "Update" instead.

Now, you're ready to start launching ad campaigns through ToneDen!
